FUTURE PROJECTS

These projects are listed here because they have the support of area users. They could all use volunteer help to move them along.

Land Swap (Pipejam to Rock Creek Crossing)

Picture
This project got started at the Butte County Forest Advisory Committee, coordinating Sierra Pacific and the Plumas National Forest to swap the above key parcels into the national forest system, in exchange for other land-locked timber that was more beneficial to SPI.  It would provide a much desired loop opportunity for users, and also provide a key southern access and exit route. We were well into the process, then the Dixie fire burned up much of the swappable inventory.  We are hoping to revive the process.

Humbug Summit Rd Staging Area

Picture
The relatively-flat Lassen National Forest Lands at the start of the dirt road would seem to be an ideal staging area, as well as a evacuation rest area. Staging used to occur back near Inskip before the Skyway was paved through to Butte Meadows. Now it occurs on Sierra Pacific land right at the turnoff. Also, because UTV's are not street legal in CA, this is the end of the pavement.  This project would move staging off private property, and perhaps make it more organized.

RockJam

We have scouted a route across mostly granite and above creek-starts to make loop wheeling opportunities, and disperse users.  To get a new trail approved is a public process (NEPA), and between the Campfire, COVID, the Dixie fire, the LNF has been more reactive than proactive.  With the latest fire, the vegetation is knocked back, a perfect time to see and lay trail.  We are hoping things are stabilizing, and plan to pursue starting the process to make this trail official.
